Natives
Plantz grows a variety of native plants, from grasses and ground covers, to the popular Corokias like frosted chocolate and Griselinia, which are fabulous for a medium size hedge, through to larger growing tree such as Kowhai and Lancewoods. Grasses are supplied in a 1 litre tube, where others in a 2.5 litre pot and larger.
We keep the prices reasonable for you by minimal labeling and using recycled pots where possible
Hedging
Choosing the right plant for hedging is imperative because it will be with you a long time and defines the structure of your garden. You may hedge shrubs for privacy, to cut out the prevailing wind, or to provide an edging to your garden. We can advise you about the variety of plant and spacing when planting (to avoid the gap that can happen at the bottom of established hedges). Soil types have a huge influence when choosing the correct plant, so feel free to come and have a chat.
Topiary
We may be biased, but you cannot go past a good solid topiary to give defining structure. It can be one form, or a cluster of varying sizes and shapes, and not just buxus (although our dwarf Buxus suffruticsosa balls are pretty stunning!). Topiary is best viewed in person because it is a very personal choice and the style of your garden should determine the type of topiary you choose. If you’re planting topiary in a pot make sure it is large enough for the plant to survive happily for many years with minimal maintenance.
Perennials
While natives can give a great background structure there is nothing like a pop of colour in the garden. Whether you prefer just a monochromatic colour palette or a riot of colour, perennials can add interest at various times of the year. Some perennials will hibernate over winter, to reward you with vibrant colours in spring or summer. Others will continue right through winter like the very forgiving evergreens Liriopes and Mondos. For a unique touch, consider adding Miscanthus Morning Light to your garden for its distinct texture and appeal.
